Living in Ruidoso
General Info and Links | Pictures | Housing Options
Ruidoso and Alto are right next to each other and either would be a good place to stay while you attend MMMS. Generally more housing options will be available in Ruidoso, as well as more shopping and services.
We are currently building a list of resources for relocating to Ruidoso. Group rates may be available at some local cabins or lodges that are generally less busy in the winter time and would be happy to have you stay there. You could always opt to stay here Mon-Wed while classes are taking place, and commute back home for Thurs-Sun. This will of course depend on how far away your home is, but it can be an option.

Ruidoso enjoys a mild climate. Many people from surrounding areas come to visit for the skiing on Sierra Blanca, or for the relatively cool summers (compared to Southern NM and Texas!) highs averaging in the mid 80s. The spring/summer wildflowers are gorgeous. There are plenty of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain and road biking, horseback riding, and more. In the winter, sometimes it snows and sometimes it doesn't! The winter of 09/10 has proved to be snowier than other recent winters and so required more preparation for driving in the snow (make sure you've got your chains or 4WD ready!). However, it also gave us some of the best ski conditions in years. Regardless, the sun is prominent throughout the winter, making the snow absolutely glow. Highs in the winter average in the 50s.

For students who are considering commuting to Ruidoso during class days (Mon-Wed, and some Thursdays) and then driving home for the remainder of the week, one option is to find lodging for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and sometimes (January-March) Wednesday nights, then drive home the evening of the last day. This would work if you lived within driving distance. One economical way to do this would be to team up with other students in the same situation and share lodging.
- Idle Hour Lodge is a friend of Mountain Meadow Massage School. They have cabins that are reasonably priced, within walking distance to shopping, and can accomodate between 3 and 6 people per cabin. Rates may be $30 per person or lower, per night. Certain groups may qualify for reduced rates.
These cabins are about a 2 minute drive from MMMS.
